By Cindy Gaines, RN, MSN, and Chief Clinical Transformation Officer at Lumeon

After so long without in-person events, it was great to be face-to-face with healthcare executives at the OR Leadership Summit recently in Tuscon, Arizona. A first-time event for Lumeon, the summit was a unique opportunity for operating room and surgical leadership to come together with their peers and the suppliers to learn best practices and discover new solutions to OR challenges.

Lumeon utilizes automation to optimize the perioperative pathway for both patients and the clinical teams that manage this process. This event gave us the chance to share with leaders who handle this work day-to-day the positive outcomes we’ve helped clients achieve through pre-operative optimization, and show how our solution supports the entire perioperative process as a whole. We learned a lot from discussions with front-line leaders about areas where they currently excel, but perhaps more importantly, how they’re searching for ways to increase efficiency. It seemed like we really struck a chord!

Clearly, many organizations struggle with staffing and efficiency challenges, for example, how cold calls from staff often initiate the pre-operative intake.

Finding ways to help their care teams reduce manual and redundant administrative burdens and work top-of-license was high on the agenda for these leaders.

Notably, nearly everyone we spoke with was focused on short-term goals to create efficiencies for their teams without sacrificing care quality or decreasing critical patient touch points. Over and over, we heard leaders lament about the high number of manual touches the current perioperative process requires to adequately prepare patients for surgery.

For longer-term goals, the emphasis was more on managing the end-to-end process, with some leaders pointing out the desire to embrace the surgical home model.

Although some leaders were not familiar with Lumeon’s technology, they were keen to learn more about it, particularly how it works with existing technology investments. We described how our orchestration engine provides a scalable solution that leverages systems already in place – such as the EHR – to direct tasks, communications, and operations in real-time, optimizing surgical workflows from referral to recovery. And we showcased how we partner with clients along the way to deliver ROI as quickly as possible.

What made this two-day event so special was the care and planning from the Endeavor team in building time to network and make connections matching needs to solutions and facilitating solution-based conversations to drive excellence.
